Goodenough College, in Bloomsbury, central London has appointed Ardmore Construction to refurbish and modernise William Goodenough House as part of the college’s four-year refurbishment programme.
The work has begun immediately and includes adding a two storey extension to create 54 single rooms with private bathrooms and two studio flats; adding private bathrooms to existing single rooms; reconfiguring accommodation to add 20 studio flats and 10 rooms, of which several will be accessible to those with mobility and other impairments; creating a new garden courtyard and terrace; and modernizing the reception and common areas to make them accessible.
All boilers, pipework, drainage and plumbing will be replaced; electrical circuits, lighting and safety equipment as well as the exterior of the building including guttering, windows and roofs renewed. The work will be completed in summer 2012.
Sustainability and energy saving are at the heart of the refurbishment plans and the building will incorporate a green roof and photovoltaic cells.
