Creating the Buildings and Structures for Welsh Industry

Originally created to serve the mid-Wales agricultural industry by Basil Crowther in 1967, the company has grown and diversified into modular buildings, light steel framing, bathroom pods and large pre-engineered building elements such as plant-rooms, staircases, cladding and roofing systems.

Managing director Derek Crowther says, “When Basil started the company, there was a steady demand for a wide range of agricultural products. Today, as the leading specialist in metal welding and fabrication services in Wales, the company works specifically in the system-building industry to produce an extensive range of components from small brackets to structural elements including Boiler/Heater Framework and also Conveyors and Hoppers for Mobile Packing Lorry’s.”

This diversification has required a steady investment in both the workforce and in equipment. The company occupies a five-acre site and employs 15 people. Coded welders experienced in all arc welding techniques for mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and cast iron are employed to produce a wide range of components. In terms of equipment there is a comprehensive CNC guillotine and press brake facility for cutting and bending of materials up to 5mm thick in lengths up to 3mm. This is complemented by a D1500 portal profiling machine with a heavy-duty fabricated steel machine bed capable of cutting plate up to 12mm thick.

There is a new 3m x 3m sandblasting booth, used as a preparation process before the application of specialist coatings. The facility can be used to clean old components or stock items such as fencing or staircases prior to powder coating, spray-painting or galvanising. The two powder-coating facilities are capable of coating components up to 4m in length.

In addition, two large-scale spray facilities enable large components or fabrications to be spray-painted.For further information please telephone 01686 412104 or visit www.midwaleswelding.co.uk.
