From initial design to final commissioning and testing IES Instrumentation Electrical Services Limited offers the complete electrical distribution package.
The company’s engineers have extensive experience in the design and construction of distribution systems from 400V up to 33kV. This, together with a thorough knowledge of the electrical distribution industry ensures that it can offer a solution to meet any challenge.
IES has its own offices in Stockton-on-Tees and is currently building a £2 million development as part of the company’s expansion programme. IES can provide the services required by its customers, either individually or as a total turnkey solution. Its expertise ranges from simple cabling installations, transformer and switchgear replacements through to complete substation design and build contracts. With each project supervised by a dedicated engineer, knowing the abilities of his team and experienced in the area of work, quality will be at an optimum.
John Paul McQue, IES’ business development manager says, “Basically our core work is the installation, jointing, terminating and testing of cable systems up to 33kV. We are now moving into electrical power transformers, switchgear and industrial and commercial sub-stations. The reason for this is that we want to be in a position where we can offer our customers a complete turnkey solution to their problems. At the moment the majority of our work is nationwide within the UK but we have done some work in Europe.”
The way that the company works is as follows. When a tender comes in, the engineers look at the pricing and then the job is passed to electrical engineers who look at the start of the project – the drawings, planning etc. Key personnel, including a supervisor, are then allocated to the job. The arrangements are then made with the equipment suppliers to ensure that the various key pieces of equipment are delivered to site on schedule and within the correct timescale of the project. In the case of transformers, for example, some suppliers can provide these off the shelf while in other cases, IES engineers work with the manufacturers to produce a bespoke unit. IES teams carry out all of the installation work through to and including full commissioning.
John Paul says, “Because of our overall expertise, we have worked on some very prestigious contracts including, on the industrial side, the Nissan Battery Plant, the Fairstar Fjord in Malta, Manchester Airport, St Pancras Station, several power stations including Drax, Aberthaw and Robin Rigg and the Airbus North Factory. On the commercial side, we have worked on Bridgewater Place, the Darwin Centre and Tesco Surrey Quays, while in the public sector we have completed work at Durham University, St Helen’s Hospital and St Martins in the Field.”
