Getting the Message Across

In today’s buildings there are many ways of communicating with other people and departments. One company that has specialised in not only solving these problems but also in offering advanced solutions is Simcol Communications. Based in Newport, South Wales, the company was established in 2004.

Simon Hurditch, who has been in the communications industry for around 30 years, together with his wife, Coleen, who is Sales and Administration Director, have built up the business to offer a wide range of audio and audio-visual systems throughout South Wales and the South-west of England.

Coleen explains, “We work with most of the major electrical, mechanical contractors, and fire and security companies in South Wales, and the West Country. We are specialised suppliers for ADT Fire and Security, and agents for Cameo Voice Evacuation, Bosch PAVA, Commend UK Intercom and Sennheiser digital conference equipment. As a result, we can supply, install, commission and maintain systems for Public Address, Voice Evacuation Systems, Background music, Inductive Loop, Video and Audio Card-based Door Access, Radio and Wired Intercom Systems, Sound and Stage Lighting, Infra Red Transmission Systems, CCTV, Conference and Audio Visual Systems, Fire Telephone and Warden Call ”

Among the companies long list of blue chip and major clients are the West Mercia Police, Cardiff Airport, Crown and Magistrates Courts, National Assembly for Wales Building in Aberystwyth, Swansea University, Queen Elizabeth School Wimbourne and Arriva Trains (Wales). In addition, Simcol carry out maintenance for Kier and Mitie Facilities Servicing various systems, including inductive loop hearing systems for Courts, Leisure and Art Centres throughout the southeast of England and mid-west Wales.

Looking at the construction industry in general, Simcol is becoming increasingly employed by the main electrical and mechanical contractors to install PA systems, infrared or induction loop systems, projection and audio-visual systems in boardrooms and conference suites. Another key business area is in churches where there is a growing recognition, as well as a legal requirement for improved hearing systems for those who are hard of hearing. Here both the traditional PA systems as well as induction loop technology is in demand. Similarly, under the latest DDA legislation, all new public buildings have to be fitted with this technology.

Coleen adds, “We are a member of PLASA, the Professional Lighting and Sound Association and, in addition, all of our engineers are fully trained in all aspects of Health and Safety and will carry out our installations with the minimum of inconvenience to our clients. Our USP is based upon the level of customer service that we offer. We pride ourselves upon the principles of offering quality, respect and good customer service, in design, installation, commissioning and after-sales service. An example of this can be seen from a project that Simcol completed for Ty-Cila Residential/Respite unit, Swansea for clients with physical and learning disabilities. The Manager, Rebecca Lane said, “We at Ty-Cila are delighted to be associated with Simcol Communications Ltd. They offer a prompt service, which is vital in a care environment. The Company offers a high standard of workmanship coupled, with a friendly attitude, which is greatly appreciated.”
