Making Air Move

Simon Glover, owner and Managing Director of A & S Services Nottingham Limited says, “Airduct and Sheet Metal Services was formed in 2001 by Simon Glover who has 30 years experience working within the industry.

We are a family-run conscientious business based in the Nottingham area offering a nationwide installation service. Proud of our high standards supported by HVCA and Safe Contractor, we aim to provide our clients with a high quality service whether planning new projects or modifying existing installations.”

A large amount of the work done by A & S is in the catering industry. This can involve anything from replacing and/or covering the walls and floor with white UPVC panels that are rated to Class 1 Fire rating or with stainless steel. They can also supply safety flooring for mopping up. They also provide the canopies to extract the cooking smells and heat.

In many cases, it is not just a question of extracting the used air but it often involves the provision of fresh clean air. To this end, A & S work with companies such as Airwell, Elta, Vent-axia, Xpelair and Woods fans. With this in mind, Simon is looking to penetrate the leisure centre market, although they have already done some installations on swimming pools.

Looking at some of the work that A & S has done, work has been carried out across the Le Bistro Pierre chain of restaurants in and around Nottingham and at the Westfield Centre in Derby. At the Siemens Technology Information Centre in Nottingham, a constant supply of fresh air is needed to keep the computers cool. Although the building is fully air-conditioned, in order to reduce the running costs of the air conditioning systems, A & S have installed fans and filters to ensure a controlled and steady supply of fresh air. In the kitchen area at the Robin Hood Centre at Blidworth, Nottingham, A & S supplied a new canopy to HVCA DW172 and BS 6173 regulations. They also carried out the necessary gas work and ensured a constant supply of fresh air into the kitchen.

As mentioned above, in some installations, A & S also clad the walls and floors to provide easy to wipe clean surfaces as well as safety flooring for ease of cleaning up and freedom from infection. At Le Bistro Pierre in Leamington Spa and at Ockbrook School in Derbyshire, A & S provided a canopy as well as wall cladding and flooring. At Kerry Foods in Burton-on-Trent, not only did A & S supply the canopy but also the fresh air supply and extract complete with chiller battery together with some air conditioning.

Simon said, “At Burger King we went through all of their sites in Scotland and changed their filter systems to Veritec Filtration Systems and upgraded their Ansul Fire Suppression System. We don’t do our own gas work but we work with a company that is fully approved. We can design, supply and install systems as per the customer’s requirements and can offer complete systems. Above all, we offer a totally professional service.”
