MINI CRUSHERS – All good things come in small packages

There has always been a view that crushing concrete is really only for the large scale stationary crushers. Never has that been further from the truth than now. Crushing concrete on-site with a mini crusher makes financial sense.

Mini crushers can get into the smallest of places and crush the concrete exactly where it’s needed. The portability of the Red Rhino mini crusher means fewer movements of the crushed rubble around the site.

Red Rhino mini crushers can work in far smaller spaces than a traditional large scale crusher, yet still achieve up to 45 tonnes per hour. The Red Rhino mini crushers as their name suggests, are strong and tough, and capable of crushing even the hardest rubble.

Red Rhino owners have recognized that purchasing and maintaining a mini crusher can really save them money. The running costs are in the £100’s not £1000’s per year. This is a viable alternative to the traditional large scale crusher approach

Opportunities for Red Rhino Mini crushers

The construction industry currently produces 120 million tonnes of waste every year. Around 20 million tonnes of this waste end up in landfill with no reuse and no intrinsic value.

In financial terms the UK is spending £4bn to dump waste in a landfill site.

Why continue to pay all the rising landfill tax and fuel costs when you can crush your concrete and reuse the crushed material or better still sell it.

In financial terms, it means that by crushing just 15 tonnes of rubble saves you at least £600 compared to dumping it.

In terms of sales, Jason Purllant, Sales and Marketing Manager, reports that, with the increasing pressure to recycle waste, sales volumes are increasing rapidly. But it’s not just in the UK market; Jason says he receives internet enquiries from all over the world. The world market is focused on recycling concrete… we need to be the same in the UK… there are limited landfill opportunities

The UK only recycles 15% of all the waste it produces compared to Denmark who recycle 90%. Jason pointed out that we have a long way to go to catch up on our European neighbours. This problem will not go away on its own. This market is set to grow over the next five years with fuel prices rising and landfill tax rising to over £8 per tonne each year.

Red Rhino Products

Our products work on a very simple action that calls for two jaws, set in V, to be powered together. Material — rocks, bricks, kerbstones — entering the top become progressively crushed as they slip down into the V until they are small enough to fall through the gap at the bottom. The size of the finished material is governed by the width of the gap at the bottom. Output can vary from 10mm to 150mm depending on the settings of the jaws

Maintaining the momentum of the crushers through the heavy flywheel is the key to successful crushing. If a particularly tough lump of concrete is encountered there is enough reserve power to crush even the hardest lumps.

The range starts with the 750kg 2000 series increasing in size to the 10,000kg 7000 series. We have a range of crushers to suit every application and budget. Our most popular machine is the 5000 series which boasts a massive 20 tonnes per hour capacity yet will fit easily on the back of standard 3 tonnes rated plant trailer.

The Future

The crushing market is set to grow bucking the general trend of the construction industry. Increasing EU pressure is forcing all businesses to consider how they handle their construction waste. Any construction project over £300,000, by law, now has to have a written statement how they intend to handle the waste they will produce from the project.
