Not Big Talk, But Big Ideas

Architecture carries the tremendous responsibility to not only provide for clients, but also to serve and shape the fabric of our communities.

With this in mind, PlanArch Design has merged talent, innovation and expertise to create enduring architectural solutions, serving discerning clients across a broad range of sectors, from residential through to education, commercial and listed buildings.

PlanArch Design has a strong tradition of doing the highest calibre of work. Tight time schedules and restrictive budgets are never accepted as excuses for not producing the very finest design. And this goes a long way to explaining why a significant degree of its work is derived through recommendation. Indeed, the consistency of return customers is testimony to its ability to interpret client desires, control costs, and meet deadlines.

This uncommon expertise has not gone unnoticed either, with the practice picking up a clutch of awards, including an RICS award for Tindale Towers, which is a striking art deco residential building in Bishop Auckland. In fact, with its proven experience and professional capabilities – it is one of the first practices to bring together an architectural team and a town planner – PlanArch Design can provide the solution for all of its clients’ building and planning concerns … no matter what the challenge.

An excellent case-in-point is the SG Petch car showroom; a multi-franchise dealership at Broomside Park, Belmont, Durham, the home of Hyundai, Mazda, Nissan and SEAT. Here, in 2008, PlanArch Design created a new facility with 2200m2 of floor space. With a build cost of approximately £2 million, this prestigious project enjoyed superior workmanship throughout every stage of the development.

As a matter of fact, the project went so well that PlanArch Design is now working on phase 2 of the SG Petch car showroom, with planning approval already received and tender documents currently being compiled. The new extension, with a footprint of 700m2 and extensive landscaping, will be a double-height space with glazed curtain walling, giving the dealer not only extra ‘legroom’ but also an additional architectural statement, with leading companies such as Kinetic Engineers Limited (M&E engineers) and Upright Limited (groundworks) both lending their expertise to the schemes.

There is no doubt that this is a building that really does ‘pull you in’. Reacting quicker than many of its big competitors, whilst also offering a keen pricing policy, PlanArch Design is a relatively small practice that punches well above its weight. Moreover, it doesn’t turn anyone away; and whatever the size of the job it gets the same high levels of service and attention to detail.

To the practice’s capabilities, we must add its insistence on responsive communication, adherence to schedules and budget concerns, and a commitment to design excellence. It’s a potent mix. It’s less about big talk and more about big ideas; ideas that resonate within the hearts and minds of its clients and their local communities.
