Not Only a Growing Company, A Smart One

Star Uretech launches High Friction/Anti-skid Surfacing with 10 year life expectancy and backs its confidence in the system by giving a five year guarantee

Star Uretech is just about to gain HAPAS/BBA approval for Uretech HFS anti-skid surfacing adhesive (February 2011). A trial site in Middlesbrough is now 10 years old and the surface still passes the industry standard for slip resistance, wear and texture retention.

The normal lifespan for the majority of the hot melt systems currently in use is no more than two years and, in highly trafficked areas, there are sites where hot melt products last less than six months!

Uretech HFS has other major advantages. The carbon footprint is a fraction of the much more commonly used hot-applied materials; an independent assessment of Star Uretech’s system calculates that its carbon footprint is only 1% of that of any hot-applied system in terms of the installation operation.

A wider window of application than that of other cold-applied materials is also possible and the full cost of installation should be no more than current systems.

Offering a diverse yet complementary range of products and services, in tandem with an invaluable balance of innovation and practicality, Star Uretech has established itself as one of the UK’s most respected and sought after developers and manufacturers of specialist urethane based adhesives for the construction industry.

First opening its doors for business on 1st February 2001 by Tony Hughes and Rob Jackson, who looked to exploit and continue the innovative and in some cases patented developments which were initiated within the Urethanes Division of Sterling Technology Limited who no longer manufacture in the UK.

Technology driven and seeking to develop urethane resins for specific customer requirements where more conventional technology often suffers shortcomings, Star Uretech is a company with smart products; that is why leading organisations such as Kingspan rely upon its expertise.

Much excitement at the present time revolves around the high-friction surfacing system that the company has developed for highways; cold applied, it is environmentally friendly and with damp surface tolerance is unique within the industry. The same damp surface tolerance is also enjoyed by clients who take advantage of Star Uretech’s decorative aggregate bonding systems, with the company supplying binders for use in decorative scenarios such as gravel driveways, bonded chippings, car parks, decorative hard landscaping, streetscapes, anti-slip surfacing and tree bases.

Indeed, Star Uretech’s product portfolio offers solutions for many challenges, including:

• Adhesive applications for the flooring industry for bonding decorative and wearing surfaces, and pedestals to concrete for access flooring;

• Elastomeric membrane coatings for roofing, waterproofing and DPM applications;

• Aggregate bonding for high-friction and coloured surfacing in the highways sector (Star patented Uretech HFS, D-Flex and DSR resins will cure at low temperature and require no primer on both concrete and bituminous substrates); decorative aggregate toppings for architectural and landscaping situations from tree planter bases to driveways; and resin bound aggregate systems for specialist highway applications, such as permanent road repair, ironwork surrounds and mechanical joint fixing.

Operating out of a modern 18,0002ft factory that has the capacity to increase production by a factor of five, Star Uretech is looking to the future with genuine confidence. Despite margins being seriously squeezed during the current economic climate, it is still managing to grow during the recession… not many construction industry companies can make that claim nowadays!
