As the company’s 35th anniversary in September approaches, managing director Mark Huttlestone says, “Here at AOC Interiors we have been making some changes and restructuring to put us into a stronger position for the future.

We have made some changes and have brought some new highly skilled people in from outside to allow us to cover the same business with less people. We have restructured once before but we are now looking to launch a completely new image in January 2012 as we present a fresh new face to the industry.”

The company began its move to achieving its ISO 9001 accreditation by introducing a completely new Integrated Management System and now that it has achieved this accreditation in just six months, it is moving forward to achieve ISO 18001. AOC already has its IIP status.

Mark adds, “I joined the company 20 years ago as contracts manager and took over as MD about eight years ago. One of the areas that is key to our prosperity and success is IT and we have invested in this for some time now and have recently taken on some new protégés to enable us to bring our technology to the very cutting edge of 21st century technology. We provide turnkey solutions for all interior and exterior refurbishment fitting-out projects. We offer complete design, space planning and implementation for major commercial refurbishment and small works supported by our own joinery shop, which manufactures high quality bespoke products.”

Looking at some of the recently completed projects it is not hard to see why its reputation stands so high. June saw the completion of the refurbishment and restoration of Upminster Court. This Grade 2 listed property has now been restored under a £2.3 million contract to its original beauty and will be in full occupation by Uniserve UK Ltd in early autumn. AOC’s work included the commercial space, training facilities, a VIP boardroom and directors’ suites.

A £2 million contract for Albury Land extended to a strip out of 40,00ft2 of office interiors including the mechanical and electrical systems. AOC then negotiated the £1.9million Category A fit-out of all four floors and common parts, including new mechanical and electrical systems. The installation of the M&E was particularly demanding due to the extremely small ceiling void (210mm). Other aspects of the contract included a complete lift refurbishment, cradle access equipment refurbishment, installation of new toilet accommodation with DDA compliant showering facilities, external specialist cleaning and installation of piles and pile caps for future development.

At the St Clare Hospice in Harlow, which is mainly for children, AOC has just finished off eight special high-end bedroom suites. It was a challenging project as the work had to be carried out while the children were still living there. Finally under a £1 million contract, AOC are due to open a new facility in Copenhagen Place, Mile End, for Apasenth who provide support to disabled members of the ethnic community in East London. This scheme designed and built by AOC will be opened in July 2011 by HRH Prince Charles and Prime Minister David Cameron.
