Survival of the Fittest

Reed Harris first opened its doors for business in 1925, the year that John T Scopes was charged for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution in Tennessee.

This is quite apt, since the company a specialist importer and distributor of high quality ceramics, glass, mosaics and stone, has evolved to become a leading player in a fiercely competitive industry, serving a broad portfolio of discerning clients in both the UK and overseas.

Recently, for instance, it has supplied product for Renaissance Capital, a Russian bank, as well as the Glasgow branch of the international luxury lifestyle store, Harvey Nichols. The latter saw Reed Harris secure specification of QPC Super-black polished porcelain against stiff competition, with over 400m2 of 600 x 600 tiles being used on the project.

Indeed, porcelain has become the material of choice for many of the company’s clients, and it is easy to see why. Porcelain can now replicate natural stone and offers a wide range of formats and aesthetics; it is also extremely durable and requires very low maintenance.

Reed Harris’s policy of searching out the latest innovations in tile design has stood the test of time and its continually evolving product portfolio includes such blue-chip names as Bisazza, Cesi, Cinca, Di Treviso, Etruria, FAP, Graniti Fiandre, Grazia, Iris, Italgraniti, Keope, Lea, Petracers, Rover, Schluter Systems, Sicis, and Wedi. And no matter what the challenge, with over 80 years of experience, Reed Harris can assist its clients in achieving beautiful and practical tiled floor and wall finishes at competitive prices.

This superior level of service has helped the company to pick up several prestigious awards: in 2008 alone Reed Harris was proud to be the recipient of a trio of ‘trophies’ at the TAA Awards – Best New Innovation, Studio Service; Best New Floor Tile, Luminar; and Best Use of Tile in a Domestic Environment, 113 Woodsford Square.

As Charles Darwin once said himself: “In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment.” Reed Harris has not only adapted and evolved over the years, it has also helped to create some of the most aesthetically pleasing environments around today.
