They’ve Come a Fairway in 20 Years!

Fairway Interiors was founded by the current directors, John and Matthew Farmer, in 1992. A family business that has grown and developed over the years, it has established a reputation for quality and trust and is one of the leading Midlands-based companies, carrying out work throughout the UK in the field of interior design and commercial installation.

Matthew says, “We founded the business at a difficult time 20 years ago, but over the years we have built up a good relationship with our major clients. Today, we are interior contractors that offer complete fit-outs for end users. Our major clients are all the bigger building companies for whom we typically carry installation of suspended ceilings and partitions. We have carried out full packages of office refurbishment of offices for companies such as Land Rover – indeed over the last few years we have turned over around £3.5-4 million of work each year.”

One such project for Land Rover at their Solihull Offices involved the complete refurbishment of 120m2 of the personnel department using timber-framed, double-glazed partitioning with integral blinds. The job was completed with joinery work and redecoration within one week, with a team of three on site.

At Aston Villa’s football ground, the project was undertaken in conjunction with Mansell Construction Services Ltd. Matthew adds, “We refurbished the second floor of the Trinity Road stand within four weeks, forming new toilet blocks, new partitions, linings and ceilings. We were under extreme pressure due to the requirement for completion before the start of the football season, and we have risen to the challenge!”

For Thomas Vale, Fairway Interiors has worked at Thorns County School in Brierley Hill and Haywood Engineering College in Stoke-on-Trent. Indeed, most of the company’s work during 2011 has been in schools and further education establishments, including Bushbury School in Wolverhampton and Tipton Green School in Tipton, again for Thomas Vale.

While much of the company’s work has been in the West Midlands, Fairways Interiors has also carried a large amount of refurbishment work in the London offices of TK Maxx, in government buildings in Bristol and, through a French engineering company, in Liverpool.

Matthew concludes, “It is a difficult market but we have noticed that the private sector work is starting to come back, whereas for the past year, we have largely worked on public sector contracts, for example schools and hospitals. As a result, we have had a very good 12 months but it is difficult to predict what the next 12 months will bring.”
