Wickens have been manufacturing specialist steel products for the storage industry for over the last 30 years. One unique product is the “Heavy Duty Rack”, which works in a similar way as standard pallet racking but is capable of holding much greater and more difficult loads. Weights of up to 20 Tonnes per level are comfortably achieved with this style of rack. Manufactured throughout from structural steel, this product also has uses where long spans or depths are required for storing awkward loads. Recent projects required the storage of 15m luxury power boats on the coast and the storage of thousands of heavy lead blocks in the defence industry.
A very heavy version was also recently used to store 7 Tonne steel coils up to a height of 11m in a customers warehouse.
Racks can be fitted with a top canopy, back and side cladding to help keep out the weather, and front lockable gates for security.
Although justifiably more expensive than pallet racking, the heavy weight capacity, versatility and robust style of this racking offers many advantages in the right situations, for example in heavy industrial environments or mildly corrosive atmospheres such as coastal applications. This style of racking has also been used in applications where the potential risk of loss of the load is so important, or the load is so valuable, that the customer wanted to minimise the risk of any potential rack failure in the future.
