Fast forward for DB Construction

Established in 2006 by brothers Ben and Daniel Smith, DB Construction has grown to become a leading regional contracting business underpinned by a foundation of excellence in civil engineering.

Their knowledge of construction methods and equipment, along with the principles of planning, managing and financing ensure they deliver successfully, on time and within budget, the first tangible results of design.

The firm’s core business focuses on highways, railways, flood alleviation and urban regeneration works but they also offer groundworks solutions amongst many other specialist services. A recent project for English Heritage showcased their exceptional standards of work with the provision of major groundworks for an extensive refurbishment of Wrest Park, Bedfordshire. DB Construction created visitor facilities for the 19th century Manor House, which opened to the public amidst much fanfare earlier this year.

Starting as a ‘two men and a van’ operation in Clavering, Essex, the Smith brothers quickly invested their time and energy to build their business into the successful concern it is now, with aggressive plans for future expansion. This growth in operations meant a move to larger premises in Chelmsford in September 2011.

“When we started we were just a couple of guys with a van,” explains Ben Smith, Commercial Director. “But we worked very hard, knocking on as many doors as we could to ensure a steady flow of business.”
This perseverance paid off, however, and they quickly grew into the 30-staff strong force that it is today, with increasing volumes of work coming there way as principle contractors, securing the company’s future as a major player in the industry.

A relatively young company, DB Construction embraces new technology. For example, all on-site employees use the latest Smartphone software that allows photographs of site development to be uploaded directly into the central database – this provides head office and clients with an immediate update on site proceedings without the expense in time and money of travelling to the site.
