Ibstock Group has further enhanced its commitment to safety across its UK manufacturing sites with an investment in its fleet of fork lift vehicles supplied by Linde Material Handling.
With site safety under constant and continuous review, the company has now added a revolutionary safety device – auto-reverse speed reduction – to all its on-site trucks. The system produces audible and visual warnings for fork lift drivers and pedestrians when a person or object is detected by the reverse sensors. At an agreed point, the transmission braking is activated which then slows the truck down from 5kph to just 1kph. This reduction has been proven to drastically lower the risk of collisions and serious injury to pedestrians.
With a number of busy manufacturing sites, this further investment in safety procedures will support the existing excellent safety operational record for all Ibstock Group sites and help increase operational efficiency throughout.
Andrew Halstead-Smith, Marketing Manager for Ibstock Group, comments: “The company’s production facilities are geographically large and undertake high levels of activity. We are continuously striving to match operational efficiency requirements with a safety record we are very proud of. Our people are our most important asset and keeping them and visitors safe at all times is a top priority across our sites. The introduction of this new safety aid for our extensive fork lift truck fleet means that our commitment to safety is further supported.”
The new device will be particularly important in high traffic areas such as storage, incoming goods, dispatch and manufacturing locations. The combination of audible warning alarms and visual aids ensures that safety measures will not be compromised even in noisier production areas.
