Reducing Red Tape

Many of us have heard the oft used term reducing red tape, health and safety has often been the whipping boy.

Yes there are numerous cases of silly decisions taken by overzealous and under qualified practioners, but don’t think for one moment the requirements of the Construction Design & Management Regulations (CDM) 2007 will be relaxed. Too many Unions and old style principled politicians have fought too hard to reduce deaths and injuries in the Construction Industry. You simply cannot put construction in the same terms as the office or school; you play with huge machines not conkers.

Think the Construction Industry is safe, look at the picture, if you cannot see the multiple problems, you shouldn’t be in this industry.

What can you do? Regardless of size of the contract you still fall under the CDM and have to comply with each piece of legislation applicable. Get qualified safety advice, CMIOSH, OSCHR registered consultants as recommended by Lord Young.

At SIS GB Ltd we offer as part of our annual contract inspections combined with toolbox talks, assistance with all documentation including PPQ’s, pat testing, occupational health, noise and air sampling, first aid, health and safety training plus CITB SSTS & SMSTS courses. And we are with you every step of the way. Average contract price £350 per month.

If contractors had funeral processions like the forces returning from war zones you would see 70 processions a week from asbestos, week after week.
