It’s not too late for anyone in WEST YORKSHIRE to help Operation Christmas Child (OCC) deliver its 100 millionth shoebox this year.
Over the past 22 years, through OCC, Samaritan’s Purse has delivered 94 million shoeboxes to needy children in over 100 countries and is looking to lift this total to 100 million and beyond this Christmas.
While the general deadline for dropping of shoeboxes has now passed, there is still time for people to wrap and pack shoebox/es, provided they are able to drop them off at Shoe Zone stores by December 3rd.
There’s also good news for people too busy to wrap and pack shoeboxes; through Shoebox World, now in its third year, busy folk, or those who are unable to get out, can create and send their shoebox/es online.
West Yorkshire Regional Manager for Operation Christmas Child, Keith Gibbons said: “There’s no need to go rushing out to shops at this busy time of year. Everything can be done online, even up until Christmas Eve, and we’ll do the rest to ensure that each shoebox will make a big difference to a child in need.
“Visitors can choose from a selection of toys, education supplies, hygiene accessories and other items which are placed in a shoebox by our volunteers before sending it for distribution overseas to vulnerable children aged between 2 and 14 years of age. A personalised message and photo can also be added, if desired.”
Samaritan’s Purse UK Executive Director Simon Barrington said: “We want to remind the children of the world that, whatever their circumstances, people in the UK do care about them and are thinking about them this Christmas.”
Online shoeboxes can be created from £11 and Shoebox World will be taking orders from anyone living in the UK, or those with UK credit cards living abroad, up to and including Christmas Day.
