Sustainability event of the year

Under the banner of ‘leading the way for a sustainable future’, Sustainabilitylive! is once again at the NEC in Birmingham, from 22nd to 24th May 2012.

The distinctive individual shows – covering the energy, water, land and sustainability sectors – each give leading companies a chance to showcase their latest products and services and do business.
Sustainabilitylive! 2012 is an essential day out for anyone in business today. It confronts some of the leading issues facing 21st century businesses, including the energy crisis, environmental processes, sustainability and water supply. It comprises the five industry leading exhibitions:

Brownfield Expo (BEX)
BEX is the UK’s largest event for remediation and contaminated land solutions, aimed at land users, contractors, environmental consultants and decision makers from both the public and private sectors looking for products and services to assist in the redevelopment of contaminated land and asbestos and pollution clean up. BEX will also be host to a 3-day technical programme, which provides visitors with up to date industry news and developments, legislation issues and industry practices.

Environmental Technology (ET)
ET is the UK’s biggest industry event within the environmental sector. It forms the largest gathering of suppliers for environmental best practice solutions in industry, covering the whole spectrum from air pollution control right through to waste minimisation. ET will be holding a 3-day comprehensive seminar programme, featuring engaging and innovative presentations covering the latest technologies and developments within the industry.

International Water & Effluent Exhibition (IWEX)
IWEX is the UK’s leading water and effluent event. Showcasing the latest water technologies and industry expertise, IWEX is THE major event for the water industry. With water resource a major issue facing organisations today and utility companies continually seeking innovative solutions the need for the industry event has never been greater. Other features delivering senior buyers include an extensive seminar and conference programme addressing the water industry’s concerns. Also at IWEX 2012 is the Institute of Water’s famous Drilling and Tapping Competition.

National Energy Management Exhibition (NEMEX)
NEMEX, now in its 30th year, is the UK’s leading energy and renewables event. It is well positioned to offer innovative technology and tackle new challenges within the energy market. NEMEX brings together energy executives and decision makers across a range of industries all shaping the UK business approach to the latest energy crisis. Other features at NEMEX 2012 include an extensive seminar programme addressing all aspects of the energy market.

Sustainable Business (SB) – The Event
Sustainable Business – The Event is synonymous with helping to drive the sustainability and climate change agenda forward within UK business. The show attracts environmental decision makers across the full spectrum of private and public sector organisations – from banks and utilities, to retailers and manufacturers – eager to demonstrate how minimising environmental impact can maximise profit. The three-day conference programme takes centre stage at SB – The Event, which will hear business leaders, academics and government policymakers share their insight and best practices in the sustainability agenda.
HEVAR is the UK’s national heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration exhibition, which runs alongside Sustainabilitylive! As well as being offered access to the extensive conference and seminar programme available at Sustainabilitylive! you will be able to gain free entry to the co-located HEVAR seminar programme.

As the sustainable industries event, Sustainabilitylive! are conscious of the fact they need to be leading the way and doing the best they can to make their event as sustainable as possible. With this in mind, for 2012 they have implemented a variety of initiatives to help Sustainabilitylive! work towards becoming a more sustainable event.

For example, Sustainabilitylive! has achieved the BSI8901 standard, which is a sustainable management system that is an integral part of how they manage the event. The standard provides a framework of good practice and defines the requirements for a sustainable event management system to ensure an enduring and balanced approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility and social progress.

This year all print for Sustainabilitylive! 2012 will be FSC – accredited. The standard, from the Forest Stewardship Council, guarantees the paper is sourced from well-managed forests. This is another example of how they are trying to make the event as sustainable as possible. They are also considering the sustainable credentials of their printing companies, by looking at their supply chain and their onsite activities. The marketing and operations department have worked together to provide exhibitors with an online manual system, which allows visitors to organise their presence at the event entirely online. This prevents printing large quantities of paper and makes the process much more efficient.
Visitors are being encouraged to travel by public transport, although where this is not possible they have organised a car sharing service. This enables visitors to liaise with other attendees to arrange travelling together, this helps to keep environmental impact down and helps visitors share the cost of travelling to the event.
