Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were appointed by Morgan Sindall to grout in excess of 30,000 linear meters of concrete plank joints to a newly built car storage facility which was constructed using pre-cast concrete planks. In addition to grouting all plank joints, Cemplas were tasked with preparing the top deck by shot blasting and applying a Tremco Polyurethane waterproof coating system. Once the Tremco system was applied operatives completed the work by applying the demarcation car park line marking in accordance with the colours and layout to the drawings provided.
Before starting the grouting works a condition survey was undertaken by Cemplas to ensure the beam planks had been installed as per the car park design specification.
A mixing area was set up where materials would be delivered to site then mixed on site to the desired specification. Each batch was meticulously weighed to ensure the correct ratio was achieved every time. Cube tests were taken and sent for testing to ensure on site quality control. Cemplas operatives began by erecting perimeter fencing around the mixing area and commenced by pre-wetting all the plank joints. The mixed grout was pumped to a storage area before being put onto the (MDD) Mobile Distribution Device. When in position the mixed grout was pumped through the pre-formed grout slot and into the plank joint. The grout was then tamped down until fully compacted. At the joint intersection of a plank abutting another, a steel reinforcing bar was installed ensuring it was centrally and equally embedded. Cemplas applied the grout taking care not to get any grout onto the plank surface, any spills were cleaned immediately to prevent staining of the plank surface and given a brush finish and cured with a curing membrane.
Upon completion of all Cemplas works, Morgan Sindall and Cemplas carried out a joint inspection and the works were signed off to their complete satisfaction.
