Townscape’s double stacking cycle racks create quadruple the space for Peterborough

THE post-Olympic cycling boom continues apace in Peterborough as the town’s railway station installs double-decker cycle racks to cope with demand.

Station owners faced with a rising number of customers arriving on bikes tasked street furniture manufacturer, Townscape Products, to design cycle racks which could quadruple capacity without using additional space.

The street furniture manufacturer has completed a £60,000 contract to install double stack bicycle racks which can hold 144 bikes, four times the number of bikes in the same compared to traditional cycle storage.

Jonathan Goss, Managing Director at Townscape, said: “Cycling has become more and more popular in the UK, a Sport England survey found 81,000 more people in England started cycling regularly over the past 12 months. The demand for cycle storage space is going to grow and with limited space available at UK stations, offices and car parks, double stack racks are an ideal solution.

“Bosses at Peterborough station are doing a great job of promoting public transport and by giving cyclists a safe and secure storage facility for bikes they are also encouraging people to lead a healthier lifestyle.

“We’ve designed a compact and space efficient solution for Peterborough Railway Station which can be used throughout the UK. We’ve now installed double stacking cycle racks at a student accommodation site in Manchester.” Townscapes double stacking racks are made from galvanised steel, feature a security locking loop and are developed in a low maintenance finish.
