PREMDOR FULLY SUPPORTS FIRE DOOR SAFETY WEEK

Mid September sees the launch of Fire Door Safety Week, an annual event designed to raise awareness of this critical element of fire safety, particularly amongst Building Owners and Management Companies, Builders, Contractors and Installers.

Whether it be commercial premises, public buildings or domestic dwellings, an effective fire door is an essential containment device that when fitted properly and maintained, ensure that people have enough time to escape the building and find safety

Premdor, as one of the Country’s largest fire door manufacturers, actively supports Fire Door Safety Week and offers practical initiatives to assist the scheme build awareness.

Approximately 3 million new fire doors are being bought and installed every year, the vast majority are made from timber. In a survey among fire risk assessors, 80% of escape routes were obstructed, 65% of fire doors were wedged open and 85% had door closers disconnected. Such activity is dangerous and against the law.

When a fire door is fitted, the installer must treat the installation as a complete door assembly incorporating intumescent strips fitted to the door leaf, which will react by expanding thus creating a barrier, smoke seals to control deadly smoke contamination and fire tested ironmongery.

Premdor’s vast range of fire doors are all supported by third party certification and are available as either half hour rated (FD30) or one hour rated (FD60). When installed correctly, this is Premdor’s guarantee that their fully certified fire door range will perform its prime function to protect lives and save property.
