SCHINDLER ANNOUNCES PREFERRED CHARITY FOR 2014

As part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, Schindler, the UK’s leading provider of lifts and escalators, has announced that its preferred charity for 2014 will be Crohn’s and Colitis UK.
This new alliance will involve fundraising and awareness-raising activities over the next 12 months.

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are both forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a lifelong illness for which there is no known cure. Anyone can develop IBD – and at least 261,000 people are affected by Ulcerative Colitis (146,000) and Crohn’s Disease (115,000) in the UK. Recently published data suggests that this could even be as many as 620,000.
The illnesses can occur at any age, but often begin in younger people aged 10-40. There are up to 18,000 new cases every year. Both conditions are found worldwide, but are more common in developed countries.

Commenting on the new alliance, Richard Clarke, Sales and Marketing Director at Schindler, said, “This is the first time we have nominated a preferred charity for Schindler in the UK. We are looking forward to working with Crohn’s and Colitis UK, which helps to support many thousands of people across the UK with such a painful condition. We hope to make a significant contribution to their activities over the coming year.”

David Barker, CEO of Crohn’s and Colitis UK, said, “We are delighted to have been adopted as the preferred charity for Schindler. We believe both organisations will benefit from this relationship and the Schindler team will raise vital funds and awareness for our charity. The money generated will help to fund essential research into the causes and treatments for the condition.”
