Snap-on Industrial (UK) launches bespoke e-Learning course to improve safety while working with tools at height

Snap-on Industrial UK, the tooling and workshop equipment solutions specialist, has launched a bespoke e-Learning course to help drive awareness of the dangers of working with tools at height.

According to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) a third of fatal injuries to workers were from falls from height, with half of fatal falls taking place in the construction industry. A further quarter of major injuries were caused by being struck by a moving object; 14 deaths were attributed to being struck by an object.

Snap-on Industrial’s e-Learning programme helps learners get to grips with technically complex subjects in an efficient, easy to follow and multi-sensory structure. The programme will take learners through a comprehensive series of modules to understand working at height, how to correctly use Snap-on Industrial’s  Tools@Height system and understand the reasons for adopting sound safety practices.  It also covers the storage, selection, inspection and use of tools and lanyards.

Learners can go through the programme at their own pace and at a time and location that suits them. The Learner Management System also gives permanent and flexible access to course administrators to track learners’ progress and certification status.

An e-learning platform provides a range of benefits including consistency of delivery and the ability of learners to fit the programme around existing work commitments. It also eliminates the need for expensive and time consuming travel. Crucially, the course can be delivered anywhere, even with poor internet access. Also, if no access is available, the course can still be delivered with the use of a portable Learner Management System.

Eric Bright, Product Manager at Snap-on Industrial, said: “Organisations need to employ a robust safety system that will protect not just its employees, but also the safety of the wider community and property when working in public and the general workplace.

“Working at height is one of the most dangerous activities undertaken in many industry sectors. In order to ensure that knowledge in a critical and technically complex subject is transferred efficiently and retained by learners, we have developed this e-Learning course. This provides high quality content contained within an easy to follow and comprehensive structure, combined with 3D graphics, animation, audio and learner interaction. The course focuses on behavioural safety and safe working practices while providing management with an overview of a candidate’s performance.”

Access to the course is via a download from the company’s Learner Management System or where poor or no internet connection exists by ConTrainer, which contains the course and user information and connects to the learner companies’ computer networks, and uses an internal Learner Management System to track and monitor learner competency.

Snap-on Industrial’s Tools@Height system delivers flexible but reliable tool control and security, with  storage solutions in the workshop, transportation to the work site with mobile tool kits and a certified tool retention system.

The company introduced the Tools@Height programme to the UK in 2000, responding to demands from the nuclear industry to enhance maintenance safety within nuclear power stations and has continued to extend its product portfolio to support a wide range of industries, including oil & gas, aerospace, rail, marine, food production, education and many other sectors.

Snap-on Industrial supplies Tools@Height products to an ever growing number of companies across virtually every market sector. Eric Bright concluded: “Increasing awareness of the need to work safely at height as well as ever increasing demands for greater productivity has driven our sales across many different market sectors. The development of the e-Learning system will help to positively increase awareness and the need for safe working practices, backed up with the market leading certified tethered tool system.”
