Having refurbished the main car park decks several years ago, Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were contacted by Consultants Tuffin Ferraby and Taylor and asked to assist in providing a specification and cost’s to upgrade the protection and appearance of various concrete elements to the external roof car park, and the two main concrete spiral entry and exit ramps totalling over 3000m2 in total.
Work commenced by DOFF cleaning all concrete surfaces. Diamond planning and shot blasting was carried out to remove all existing heavily tamped concrete surfaces to the walls, soffits, and roadways.
Having completed all the concrete preparation, Cemplas operatives carried out repairs to the structure using Fosroc Renderoc HBS, Fosroc Paveroc and Fosroc Dekgard Primer and E2000 anti carbonation coatings.
Resurfacing of ramps and roadways were carried out using Vulchem Quick methacrylate coating system with a fully blinded finish and encapsulating a colour coat, together with the replacement of expansion joints.
All work was phased over an eight week period to allow the car park to maintain its operational flow with one access ramp always open, and were largely carried out using mobile elevating work platforms together with some fixed scaffold.
The works were undertaken for Capital & Regional the Malls management company who own and operate 21 shopping Malls across the UK, and the Operations Manager for the Mall Luton shopping centre passed on his thanks to Cemplas commenting how the works by Cemplas were completed on time and on budget, and how the onsite team of Cemplas were a credit working very well with the Malls own onsite team with nothing seeming too much trouble.
