White Paper calls to tackle £1 million a day cost to construction of theft and vandalism

White Paper outlines strategies for securing construction sites

Theft and vandalism cost the industry over £1 million per day

VPS publishes a construction edition to their “Guards versus Technology” white paper.

“Data on plant and equipment theft from construction sites is staggering.” says Simon Alderson, Development Director for VPS and an active member of the BSIA, the British Security Industry Association.

“1 in 5 sites experience vandalism weekly, at least £400 million of equipment get stolen annually, and only a very small percentage of that is ever recovered. We have compared traditional security methods such as guards with the sophisticated technologies available today.”

“Guards are appropriate in certain contexts, but lower-cost, efficient technological options are chasing the market. SmartTower CCTV for example is a protection and monitoring system that can be installed in any location, however remote or challenging, and can be added to or reduced in capacity with the dynamics of a construction site. Some best-fit solutions combine fewer security guards with specialist technologies.”
