Independent construction supplier streamlines HR processes, including absence management, training and compliance for over 420 staff in 17 sites across the UK
Carval Computing, provider of fully integrated Human Resource Management and Payroll software and services, has announced that Day Aggregates has selected its HR Unity solution. Day Aggregates uses HR Unity to manage all of its HR administration, supporting over 420 staff working at its 17 locations across the South East. The HR team manages all absence, personnel training and development to ensure that it keeps up to date with auditing and industry legislative requirements to maintain its ISO9001 certification. Since deploying the system, the HR team has saved many hours in HR administrative tasks, enabling it to support the whole workforce which has increased by over 20% in the last two years, without employing extra HR staff.
The company selected Carval’s system for its ease of use and comprehensive range of HR modules which are included within the standard package, replacing a previous system which it had outgrown.
Helen Morrell, HR Manager at Day Aggregates said; “Our business had moved on and the demands were far greater than our off-the-shelf HR system could handle. Carval’s HR Unity is really easy to navigate with menu systems that we like, making it straightforward for our managers to use.
“Carval’s system does so much. It is an all-encompassing system and includes the absence management, recruitment, training and development modules, which most providers only supply as extras. It gives us one set of information and we can prove to auditors in our annual ISO9001 inspection that we are keeping up to date on training and competencies to meet quality, and health and safety standards.”
The company has 30 managers in total, as well as the HR team, using the system to manage staff absence, training and development and certification. To comply with Health and Safety and transport regulations, all drivers are required to complete 35 hours of training every five years to keep their Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC) and enable them to work in the haulage business. These details, as well as records of drivers’ licences are recorded and maintained by the HR team.
The HR team is planning to use the e-recruitment module. An interface with the company’s external website enables the applicant’s data to be captured by the system and attaches their CV to the record. Should they be successful, their details are automatically added to the live HR system saving rekeying of the data.
The team also intends to manage all of its HR policies electronically, such as those for health and safety and drugs and alcohol. Instead of asking new employees to sign paper records to confirm that they adhere to policies, the details will be administered online with short survey tests to register understanding.
John Ovington, Sales and Support Director at Carval said; “Automating and streamlining processes gives managers and HR staff the reassurance that company and legal policies for sickness and absence are adhered to, freeing them up to manage rather than administer. It brings many benefits to a business, equipping it to meet new challenges, whether changes in legislation, entitlement or remaining agile with staffing to meet customer demands. Investing in the right HR and Payroll software is the foundation upon which to build a successful business.”
