Fabweld launches new range to tackle manhole safety problems

An award-winning firm of steel fabricators has unveiled a new range of products to provide vital protection for people working in below ground outlet pipes.
Fabweld Steel Products (FSP) has launched FAB GRAB™ safety chains and fixing sets, to complement its existing range of steel products for the construction industry to prevent maintenance workers from being swept downstream.
Offering a chain breaking force of 30kN and a proof force of 15kN, it is positioned across the outflow pipe at the end of the channel, giving a crucial point to grasp in the event of an emergency.
FSP has developed the FAB GRAB range in close partnership with water utility companies to meet guidelines including Sewers for Adoption 7th edition and Highways Agency F10.

Managing Director Richard Hilton said: “Manhole safety chain specification can be very confusing and open to interpretation. This can lead to incorrect parts being supplied to sites, which can result in serious accidents.

“We believe FSP is the only UK company to hold stock of the correctly specified and tested kits that are available for same day dispatch to customers or direct to site.”

The new range is another in a year of firsts for the Telford based firm. It was awarded the prestigious BSI Kitemark for its SOLO SLIDE® recessed cover and frame that features a unique lifting mechanism.

The company has developed and supplied rapid opening stretcher access covers for service shafts on the London Power Tunnels project.
