Mobile Mini, a leading hirer of portable accommodation and secure storage containers, with its UK headquarters in Stockton on Tees, has successfully achieved a gold level award for its growing fleet of HGV delivery vehicles, in the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), an initiative operated by Transport for London and assessed at Mobile Mini’s London depot.
The voluntary accreditation scheme, which aims to drive up standards amongst commercial vehicle operators throughout the UK, requires fleet operators to demonstrate meaningful improvements in safety, environmental impact and efficiency in order to be awarded the gold level.
This makes it the third time running that Mobile Mini has achieved a FORS Gold Award – not only a hat-trick for the company, but also a first within its industry.
The award is perfectly timed as Mobile Mini recently acquired a series of 15 new delivery vehicles, giving it a fleet 41 mounted loader crane vehicles, one of the biggest of its kind in the UK.
As the only storage container company to be awarded the gold level in the accreditation scheme, it demonstrates Mobile Mini’s ongoing commitment to safety and effective vehicle management policies. The company is constantly evaluating how it can exceed the standards already achieved and this year has increased its focus on vehicle safety, including upgrading its on-board camera systems, guaranteeing 360° vision for its drivers, to avoid any on-site black spots.
Keith Silvester, Lifting Operations Manager for Mobile Mini UK, commented: “Safety is at the forefront of everything we do here at Mobile Mini and another FORS Gold Award demonstrates how seriously we take our responsibilities as a fleet operator.
“FORS first came to our attention back in 2012, when we noticed an increase in customers requesting it as a contractual condition when delivering to their sites. It has since been the catalyst to our advances in vehicle technology and focus on our people and processes.
“Through our progression from bronze to gold over the years, not only have we met our customers’ requirements, but there have been real commercial benefits for Mobile Mini. These include improved safety, greater fuel efficiency, reduced road-related incidents and consequently lower motor insurance premiums.”
Since taking part in the FORS scheme, Mobile Mini has seen a substantial reduction in the company’s motor insurance premiums, demonstrating that not only does the initiative make transport operations safer, it also provides a good return on investment.
