Background: Property development firm W1 Developments, together with Brookfield and Concord Pacific, is building Principal Tower, considered by many to be the most iconic new high-rise residential development in the City of London. Principal Tower forms the centrepiece of Principal Place, a mixed-use development offering 600,000 square feet of commercial space and 20,000 square feet of retail space.
Principal Place will be completed by the end of 2016, while Principal Tower itself completes before the end of 2018. Principal Tower is the first London residential tower to be fully designed by world-renowned architects Foster + Partners.
Requirements: W1 Developments wanted a way to visually monitor progress of the development during the construction of Principal Tower. It also wanted to explore the marketing value of delivering live views and time-lapse video recordings of the construction process for viewing on the developers’ and agent’s websites.
Solution: NW Systems Group installed an AXIS P5534-E PTZ dome network camera and a Mobotix M25M-Sec camera, fixed onto Altron CCTV-ready masts located on the roof of the Broadgate Tower nearby.
Axis’ camera offers 360 degree, HDTV quality images and 18x optical zoom for focusing on different parts of the site, while Mobotix’s camera has been fitted with a super wide lens to provide comprehensive coverage.
Due to the lack of a local internet connection, NW Systems deployed fast, secure 3G broadband. This enables them to access & store images remotely to create time lapse videos as a marketing tool for W1 Developments and residential agent JLL.
Results: NW Systems provided W1 Developments with a cost-effective, site-friendly, video monitoring and marketing solution to showcase the development.
Kerstin Bowers, Marketing Manager at W1 Developments, said:
“We’ve been very impressed with the quality of images we have received from the camera system built by NW Systems … we will use these live views and the time-lapse videos as a marketing tool, helping our agents promote Principal Tower’s apartments and helping us to win new prestige development projects.”
Frank Crouwel, Managing Director at NW Systems, summarised:
“It is remarkable to see what can be achieved with a small number of high spec network cameras if located and configured correctly. It is also great to see that W1 Developments and Principal Towers’ agents are set to put the resulting images to work to stimulate residential sales and new business at this prestigious City location.”
