Shutting The Door on Success!

How often do we look at an industrial building or a closed shop and either ignore or take for granted the roller shutter door? One company in the West Midlands that has increasingly made sure that this is not the case is Insulated Roller Shutter Products Ltd (IRSP).

Based in Brierley Hill in the West Midlands, the company will next year celebrate 20 years of successful business, not just in the UK but also in many far-flung places around the world.

According to Director Jason Danks, “We began in 1992 and now we are one of the biggest manufacturers of roller shutter doors in the UK. Today our range is very wide and varied; all of the designs are our own and we carry out all of the manufacture in-house. To ensure that we maintain our position at the forefront of the industry, we have invested in the most up-to-date computer aided design software, superior craftsmanship, innovation and engineering excellence. Furthermore, our continuous on-going research and development for all our products, ensures that they remain the most revolutionary and finest engineered products available in the UK. We are fully accredited to ISO 9001 and all our products are CE marked to current British Standards.”

The range of roller shutter doors goes from standard, single-skin, non-insulated doors, through security doors and high-speed doors to two types of insulated door. One particular design, the IRSP Secureflex crime prevention security shutter dramatically increases the amount of time the burglar, using high speed cutting equipment, has to spend entering the building. Due to its lightweight composite patented design and formed outer protection it does not require new mechanisms to operate, but can take advantage of existing motor assemblies.

Looking at some of the jobs carried out by IRSP, the applications are quite wide and varied. In the Ukraine, for example, IRSP successfully completed the Fireflex shutters on the new £200 million Shaktar Donetsk football stadium project. In total 71 Fireflex shutters, which filled six articulated lorries, were installed by IRSP’s global partner Novodoor, in average temperatures of a chilling minus 23°C! In the Gulf, IRSP has exhibited for the last five years at the Big 5 Exhibition and now, through its range of agents has reaped the rewards. IRSP’s shutters can be found on a number of highly prestigious buildings, including the Burj Khalifa Tower, Emirates Flight Headquarters, Zaid University and Sayata Island. IRSP was, in fact the first UK company to be specified for an entire airport (Abu Dhabi).

One of the company’s more innovative products is The ‘Fireflex R’ Radiant Heat Door, which has been designed to provide a substantial safety barrier between the source of the fire and any precious or dangerously flammable stock. With traditional doors, in addition to heat coming through the structure, heat can rise to 4m above the shutter. With the new IRSP design, the heat rise is limited to just 500mm, limiting the risk of fire damage. The shutter provides a substantial safety barrier between the source of the fire and any precious or dangerously flammable stock, thereby making it the perfect application for hospitals and shopping centres etc.
