When Quality of Performance is Critical

Offering a wide range of engineering and contracting expertise, and specialising in the design, construction and installation of pipelines and related plant for the oil, gas, water and energy industries,

Land & Marine is the preferred choice of many companies and organisations because of its reliability and commitment to quality and safety.

Established in the UK in 1953, Land & Marine’s devotion to excellence in engineering and construction quality, safety and performance has enabled it to become one of the most trusted and sought companies within its field. Indeed, it has consistently delivered projects, providing value-added engineering and service skills to customers for whom the quality of execution, efficiency and reliability are critical.

Over 50 Years of Experience
Today, as a part of the Daniel Group, Land & Marine operate within four distinct areas: Construction, Engineering, Equipment Hire, and Products (TankServ; the supply of tank seals and accessories). In fact, with over
50 years of experience, its multi-disciplined staff can provide customers with an extensive range
of engineering and construction capabilities for marine and cross country pipelines and services, process and energy projects, and trenchless technology applications.

It will come as no surprise, therefore, that Land & Marine’s customer-base reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of industry and commerce and includes such blue-chip organisation as National Grid, Wales and the West Utilities, Scottish Gas Networks, RWE, SSE, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Heathrow, Manchester and Gatwick Airports, and the MoD.
Of course, this means that the company has had to attract and retain some of the best people in the industry and currently employs around 300 highly talented and skilled personnel, primarily from its head office in Bromborough on Merseyside, but also through a subsidiary design house, Protech, in Uxbridge, which employs a further 20 engineers for the oil and gas industry. Land & Marine also has a fabrication facility in Barnsley.

A Significant Contribution
The company’s construction expertise takes in the installation of marine pipelines, as well as marine engineering services and expertise, for discerning clients throughout the world; land pipelines (for UK high pressure gas transmission companies); trenchless technology (a UK service for the installation cables, ducts, sewers and pipelines for contractors, local authorities and utility companies); energy (the design and construction of energy and renewable energy schemes from 20 – 120 mw); tankage (the design and construction of site and shop built tanks); and fabrication (the fabrication of pipework and skid assemblies up to 60” diameter to the high standards demanded by the oil and gas industries).

Engineering is a key element in Land & Marine’s business, with the company offering engineering services to the oil, gas, water and energy industries in such areas as consultancy services; conceptual design, feasibility and FEED studies; landfalls, river crossings, flowlines and bundles, sealines and PLEM’s; intakes, outfalls and diffuser design; pipeline or cable route selection; civil and structural design; surface water and wastewater drainage design; process plant design; bio-fuel and CHP plant design; and storage tank engineering services.
Moreover, by working with an industry leader such as Land & Marine, clients can benefit from its years of practical problem solving and the advice it offers on design and constructibility issues. The company submit technically sound recommendations to clients and provide economic solutions, schedules and budget costs for a broad portfolio of challenges.

Land & Marine owns and operates specialist marine equipment too, including encompassing everything from work barges and mooring winches through to ROVs and subsea hydraulic tools, whilst its onshore equipment is just as comprehensive, including an extensive range of pulling winches and related equipment. Land & Marine also operate a range of horizontal direction drill rigs, auger boring rigs and pipe bursting machines.

Providing construction and project management for both UK and international projects, Land & Marine has a long track record of developing new products and techniques. An excellent example of its research and engineering development is surface towing – Flow-Lay® – which is a pipe laying installation technique for flowlines or larger diameter pipelines.  Pipelines can be constructed and tested onshore, surface towed to their location and quickly and accurately laid on the seabed, without the need for specialist pipelaying vessels.

Land & Marine is proud to have made a significant contribution to the greatly improved safety performance achieved by the national group of gas transmission plant and pipeline contractors during the last 10 years. Through the instigation of behavioural modification programmes, accident rates are at just one third of the frequency occurring 10 years back.
