The Many Benefits of a Rhino

Waste management places considerable strain on the environment, with one of the main problems of landfill as a waste strategy being where to put everything According to the EU’s waste directives, the best policy for waste is not to make it.

That may sound simplistic, but for many companies throughout the UK this is now a distinct possibly thanks to Grantham-based Red Rhino Mini Crushers.

Offering recycling solutions to businesses that are committed to improving their environmental footprint and their bottom line, Red Rhino is at the forefront of changing perceptions of how to tackle an increasingly disturbing problem. But how can purchasing a mini crusher achieve workable, cost-effective solutions? With in excess of 1000 British-designed and manufactured mini crushers now operating in 30 countries throughout the world, Red Rhino is delighted to explain the potential returns of investing in a ‘Rhino’.

A skip that holds five tonnes of waste will cost around £200 to dispose of into landfill. Most projects will produce at least two skips of waste per day. If you can hire a crusher for the day for the same price as one skip and better still produce your own MOT type 1,2 aggregate then surely making at least a 50% saving on skip hire can’t be a bad thing, whilst also producing your own backfill aggregate.

The government has stated that it intends to abolish construction and demolition waste to landfill in 2012. The impact of this is huge. Every construction and demolition project that produces waste rubble will need to dispose of the rubble in an alternative way. Crushing is the most sensible approach as it provides both reusuable aggregate for future projects, as well as a saleable product to other people.

It’s not rocket science is it – and it’s the future!
And that goes a long way to explaining why currently Red Rhino can’t make its mini crushers fast enough, with a solution available for every budget. What’s more, as the ‘throwaway culture’ changes to mirror more closely that in mainland Europe (Denmark, for instance, recycles 85% of its aggregate, whilst the UK lags behind with just 15%) the demand will only increase. In fact, for a relatively small company, Red Rhino is already enjoying tremendous success on a global scale.

The company is proud, for instance, to be playing a major role in helping to re-build Haiti following the devastating earthquake that destroyed much of the country. Red Rhino secured a contract to supply 24 machines to CHF International – a US-headquartered, non-profit aid organisation helping the country to recover and rebuild. Red Rhino’s mini crushers will be used to crush bricks and building materials so they can be used to rebuild Haiti’s schools, hospitals and homes.

Julian Mik, general manager at Red Rhino, said at the time, “We are delighted that we can play a part in the recovery process. With up to 20 million cubic metres of rubble remaining on the ground in Haiti, there is a lot of work to be done. We estimate that our crushers alone will crush 100,000 cubic metres of material in six months, which shows the scale of the task at hand.”

These figures underline the capability of Red Rhino crushers, which did not go unnoticed by CHF – Red Rhino beat off competition from the UK and Italy to win the contract.
The choice of products is impressive, taking in:
• The 2000 Multiform series, whose unique design means that it can easily cope with many applications
• The 3000 Multiform series, which is big enough to tackle even the most demanding of jobs
• The 4000 series is the only small crusher to accept a full UK kerbstone, and can enter sites where access is limited
• The 5000 series will crush a full UK kerbstone in 30 seconds!

The 7000 series features a toggle jaw crusher, 14% manganese steel ‘reversible’ jaws, and a Deutz 74hp air cooled diesel engine

It’s not only the product range itself that turns heads though; it’s the level of customer service that goes with it. Red Rhino is only just a phone call away from helping clients with spares and repairs, with its dedicated and specialist mechanics able to provide professional repairs, ensuring that crushers get back out and crushing again as quickly as possible.
