With almost 50 years experience and an exceptional range of skills, services and products, FES Ltd was the contractor of choice for the flagship £95m National Indoor Sports Arena (NISA) and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
One of the biggest indoor sports facilities of its type in Europe, the NISA and Velodrome will be located on a 10.5 hectare brownfield site close to Celtic Park, Glasgow. The complex will be the main sports facility for the 2014 Games and a national training centre for athletics, basketball, netball, track cycling and volleyball. The highly flexible 5,000-seat indoor arena will be capable of staging international sporting events in a wide range of disciplines. The Velodrome will house a 250m high-banked wooden cycle track and multi-use infield area with a permanent 2,500-spectator capacity, which will increase, to 4,000 during the Games.
A four-storey ‘hub’ will link the five-storey indoor arena and Velodrome. Adjacent to the arena will be a community sports centre, four floodlit five-a-side pitches, a 1km outdoor cycle track and a 8,500m2 multi-purpose area.

Formed in 1963, the FES Group has expanded to become one of the leading building support services organisations within the UK. FES, known originally as Forth Electrical Services, expanded its operations with the formation of OES Ltd in 1971 to provide a strong base for operations in the West Highlands and Islands. Due to continuing success and growth in the Aberdeen and North East Area, CHES was formed in 1988. It was in 2001 that the operating company was re-named FES, in order to reflect its position as a multifarious services organisation. To add to the business portfolio and answer an increased demand in the market place for facilities management, FES FM was created in 2001 as an independent operating company.
The controlled expansion of the FES Group from its electrical roots has allowed the creation of Specialist Divisions which now add to the core business, enabling the highly motivated and professional management team meet all client expectations and demands.
With the Head Office in Stirling and regional offices in Romford, Central London, Leeds, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Oban, FES provide a wide range of building services to clients anywhere within the UK.
At FES they are proud of their people and directly employ over 1,600 people with 1,200 operatives and 600 staff throughout the UK.
