FULCRUM CALLS FOR TOUGHER CHECKS ON OUTLET PIPELINE SAFETY

Energy solutions specialist Fulcrum is urging Health and Safety Officers and Maintenance Management staff to address an epidemic of poorly maintained and damaged outlet gas pipes (the pipe the carries gas from the meter to the appliance); which if ignored can carry heavy costs and risk lives.

Fulcrum – which delivers utility connections nationwide from its South Yorkshire base – is rolling out a new offering to deal with this issue, a comprehensive Inspection and Maintenance product which involves the detailed assessment of large scale pipelined operations such as leisure and retail facilities, manufacturers, public sector sites such as hospitals and colleges or any business/infrastructure which has gas outlet pipework

Outlet pipelines are often neglected once installed and owner/managers do not realise they are legally responsible, and have a duty of care to ensure that over the long term such supply lines are maintained for health and safety purposes, much like an annual inspection on a basic boiler or heating system. The IGEM (Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers) UP/2 (Inspection and Maintenance) Standard states that a full maintenance plan should be drawn up for all downstream outlet pipework and ancillary equipment, supported by an annual inspection and by soundness testing that is completed every five years.

Fulcrum’s new service ensures an unrivalled, complete and in-depth servicing of outlet pipework which commences with a free no obligation walk through and quote. Experienced Gas Safe engineers will then conduct a thorough inspection and provide a detailed report indicating any remedial action required, together with a maintenance programme to ensure all outlet pipelines are of operational standard and pose no imminent health and safety risk.

Fulcrum designs and delivers domestic, industrial and commercial gas connections, disconnections, meter installations, outlet pipework and multi-utility works nationwide. Projects range from multi-million pound, technical developments such as Heron Tower, London’s tallest building, to smaller scale domestic and commercial one-off projects like the supply upgrade to pubs and restaurants.

John Spellman, Fulcrum CEO commented, “It has come to the attention of our expert engineers that more and more businesses are operating with substandard outlet pipework which poses significant implications to the successful running of the business and what’s more, is putting lives at risk.

“Our Inspection and Maintenance service is set to become a significant part of our business; with many customers already recognising the need to provide a well maintained and safe environment for their business practices and staff.”
