Building jobs online

Subbyline.com is an innovative free listings website to help connect employers and employees in the construction industry.

Tom Walsh and Susanne Houghton founded Subbyline.com in 2010 to help the long-term unemployed and those struggling to find employment within the construction industry. On the site, employers can post notes detailing their current labour requirements while tradesmen can post notes saying they are available for work. Regional bulletin boards display notes for a particular area.

Tom Walsh, Director says, “I am really pleased at the response we have had so far. Subbyline is providing a long overdue service for the construction industry. As a Project Manager I understand the pressures and deadlines we all face and the need for instant solutions – Subbyline is the way forward for the construction industry.”
The fast growing listings site has caught the eye of Secretary of State for International Development, Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell who happens to be MP for Sutton Coldfield, home to Tom and Susanne. Commenting on the project from his own site, the MP hoped it would help the construction industry and stated he’d contacted Birmingham Jobcentre Plus “recommending that he looks at this effective way of helping people back to work.”

“Subbyline now has 25,000 members, with over 1.9million hits recorded and a huge amount of repeat visitors, which is great for our advertisers,” says Tom. “Potential advertisers can access our unique, automated advertising banner system which is made up of 100s of templates of skyscraper and banner ads and allows them to view how their ad would appear before they buy.”

At a cost of £25 per month, this has to be one of the most affordable ways of marketing to a targeted audience. “Once booked our client’s ad will appear at the top of the listings for their particular area. If you’re a plumber from Coventry, you will be the first plumber in the Coventry area listing.” Such is the success of the website Tom is hoping to expand the site into Ireland and the rest of Europe in the near future.

Subbyline is planning a number of promotion events this year with the firm’s glamorous team of Subbyettes visiting building sites all over the country. If you want to challenge the Subbyettes to a construction task on your site, email: [email protected] for more details.
