J Fitch Flooring Limited is one of the most experienced and highly regarded carpet and flooring contractors in the South East. Originally founded in 1969 by John Fitch, now retired, the company was bought over by current owners, his son Darren Fitch, David Jacques and Michael Sharp.
The company employs a nucleus of skilled operatives who are able to produce work of the highest standards. Their attention to detail and “get it right first time” philosophy has allowed Fitch Flooring to build a strong repeat business client base and enabled them to enjoy the support of most of the UK’s major flooring manufacturers and suppliers.
The company has a workforce of 30-35 employees, operates from their 11,000 sq ft warehouse and office premises in Romford and last year saw a £3.5m turnover.
“Business is difficult because of the larger economic downturn,” admits Michael, “but we are doing reasonably well. People trust our name and service because we’ve been trading a long time and our clients know we deliver. We also have a great reputation for our commitment to Health and Safety standards, which is a requirement for most of our larger clients. At present we receive around 50 enquiries per week.”
Regular clients include companies such as Kier, Carillion, Skanska and Laing O’Rourke as well as many smaller local and regional contractors, Heathrow and Gatwick airports, nuclear power stations, prisons, laboratories, schools, colleges and universities.
