Skanska Saves £50,000 Annually with Netop Remote Control

Secure and scalable solution controls up to 100 sites across the UK, saves 1000 miles of travel time every week and aids billion-dollar carbon reduction programme

Netop, a pioneer in secure remote access support and management, today announced that Skanska UK, part of one of the world’s leading construction and development groups, is driving business efficiency, reducing costs and contributing to its goal of becoming the leading Green contractor and developer with the help of Netop’s remote management software, Remote Control.

The product, which provides fully scalable and secure remote access to all devices across any enterprise environment, is installed on the workstations of over 4,000 users and 300 servers at Skanska. This allows staff to receive IT support on any of the 100 sites it operates at any one time.

If support staff were to physically travel to sites rather than administer machines remotely, they would collectively travel approximately 1,000 miles to and from sites every week. This equates to, in terms of combined mileage and time-savings from Remote Control, a bottom-line saving in excess of £50,000 [1] each year.

Skanska is also able to substantially reduce the time its employees’ cars are on the road, and save around 20 tonnes [2] of CO2 from entering the atmosphere in the process. This supports the company’s goal of becoming the global leading green developer and contractor, which has been in place for over 12 years and is designed to save approximately $1 billion in company costs worldwide.

Netop Remote Control enables users to quickly and securely manage a target machine or device without the overhead of transmitting a traditional desktop. It was chosen by Skanska for its ease-of-use and system flexibility, which makes it possible for the company to use a single tool for all remote control tasks.

By offering immediate support via remote control, with unrivalled speed and reliability, Skanska is able to provide a superior level of efficiency to its remote staff, increasing business productivity as a result. In travel time for its support team alone, it allows the company to save over 40 hours every week, equivalent to the full workload of one full-time member of staff.

Now used by up to 25 central support staff daily, Netop Remote Control is used to conduct all technical training, software updates and hardware configuration for its thousands of staff, who are spread across all areas of the UK completing their work.

Steve Capper, Director of IT at Skanska, said: “Our staff could be 300 miles away in Scotland one week, and in London the next. Having them travel further still to receive technical assistance or deliver sensitive files is, quite simply, not an option. Using Netop, these processes are quick, seamless and secure, saving my staff an immeasurable amount of time. It’s critical to the overall performance of our business too, as without it, we wouldn’t be able to provide the level of support that we do now.”

Kurt Bager, CEO of Netop, concludes: “For companies looking to streamline processes, cut costs, operate globally and create mobile workforces, the demand for remote control is growing. Skanska illustrates the tremendous amounts of time, money, and resources that can be saved by eliminating the need for support staff to travel, which also underlines the substantial contribution to energy-saving initiatives that can be made in the process.”
