ISO-Chemie has become the first foam sealing tape manufacturer in the world to gain the Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) standard in accordance with ISO 14025 and prEN 15804.
The move follows testing and evaluation of ISO Chemie’s polyurethane and polyethylene foam tapes at the Rosenheim test centre in Germany, which confirmed that the company’s products do not have any negative influences on the environment, particularly during use.
The EPD examination covered the production, use and post application of the sealing tapes manufactured in the ISO-Chemie GmbH production plant in Aalen.
Evaluation was based on eco-balances in which the effects on the environment are calculated through material and energy flows and covered the full ‘cradle-to-grave’ life cycle of the tapes – from raw material extraction through production and distribution to recycling.
Peter Thompson, ISO Chemie’s UK general manager, said certification reflected the company’s strong commitment to providing low carbon products to protect the environment.
“We are the first global supplier of foam tapes that we know of to receive this certification, reinforcing our very strong environmental credentials.
“The aim is to help our customers reduce their own carbon footprint as reductions are embedded in the products we make for them.
“Certification will also add towards ensuring compliance with building regulations which state that from 2016 all new homes will need to meet stringent carbon neutral standards.”
Once installed, ISO – Chemie’s products ensure a building is better protected from elemental factors like wind, dust and moisture ingress by accommodating the changes in structural movement caused by environmental, cyclical and settlement factors.
Products have CE markings and comply with energy saving regulations (EnEV) on windows and doors as well as the RAL quality assurance association, has an EC1 rating for very low emissions and a B1 fire resistant rating.
These can accommodate extremes of temperature changes – from -30°C to + 80°C and major products come with a 10 year performance warranty.
