ESSENTIAL ADVICE FROM FPL

Fire-resistant ductwork systems manufacturer, Fire Protection Ltd (FPL) has released a new Guidance Note for Specifiers and Purchasers of Fire Rated Duct Systems

Bringing together all of the relevant guidance on fire resistant ductwork, the Guide is an essential tool for anyone involved in the design, specification, purchase, maintenance and management of such systems.

The 44-page guide introduces the regulations and standards that apply and provides additional information and comment to assist users in specifying and purchasing the correct fire resistant duct system for every application.

Arranged in eleven short chapters, the guide provides an introduction to the legal requirements of the Responsible Person, introduced under Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, as well the guidance outlined in Approved Document B to the Building Regulations 2000.

It also explains the recommendations of various standards including BS 9999: 2008: Code of Practice for fire safety in design, management and use of building; BS 476: Part 24:1987; ISO 6944: 1985 and the Association for Specialist Fire Protection Blue Book – Fire Resisting Ductwork.

In addition, the guide provides an introduction to the Construction Products Directive (CPR), which will apply from the 1st July 2013. This will result in mandatory CE marking of fire-resistant ducting and introduces a new testing regime. The product construction and testing standards that will apply are clearly described.

This essential guide is completed by a useful checklist to help specifiers and purchasers of fire resistant duct systems ensure at a glance that they have considered all the necessary recommendations when making their product choice.
