Ambitious expansion raises the roof at Scotts

Scotts of Thrapston Ltd has announced the exciting launch of a new manufacturing company in the West Midlands, producing trussed rafters and engineered floor joists.

The new company – Scotts Timber Engineering Ltd – has set up design and management offices in Shirley, whilst its new manufacturing facility is being established. Once commissioned, the new factory will enjoy the benefits of the latest thinking in machinery and production planning, leading to the creation of around 20 jobs in the early phases. The company specialises in timber engineering, taking the benefits of environmentally friendly timber as a construction material and exploiting its strengths to achieve 21st century design solutions. The new company is being headed up by Richard Evans, a widely-respected individual with over 25 years industry experience, who has pulled together a very customer-focused and experienced design team.

Product is initially being manufactured at the parent company’s six acre site in Northamptonshire, but shortly all manufacturing will be at an undisclosed site to the south of Birmingham. The move follows five years of unprecedented growth in Scotts truss and joist business, culminating in the company’s best ever year in 2011. “With an enviable reputation for high quality products and excellent customer service, Scotts is well placed to expand its winning formula to serve a broader geographical area and capitalise upon future opportunities” says Scotts Chairman, David Scott.

David adds: “This extension of the Scotts business will enable us to effectively extend Scotts’ reach along the M40, M42 and M5 corridors. We feel confident that the house building market will turn a corner in the not too distant future and we wish to be prepared to make the most of that when it happens. Demand for Scotts products has never been stronger and we feel now is the right time to invest and expand.”

M.D. Richard Evans says: “It is a very exciting opportunity to start with a blank sheet of paper whilst having the resource of a long established company as support. It is refreshing in the current climate to be involved with a forward thinking team who have confidence in the West Midlands.”
