Stansted chooses Morgan Sindall Professional Services in new framework agreement

Consultancy chosen as sole provider of multidisciplinary design services

A new framework agreement for the provision of design, engineering, planning and architectural services for Stansted Airport has been won by the multidisciplinary design consultancy, Morgan Sindall Professional Services, in one of the most significant contracts of its kind this year.

The agreement, which is for an initial two-year period, is unusual in that Morgan Sindall Professional Services has been appointed as the sole consultant to the airport, responsible for delivering various multidisciplinary design projects each to a capital value of up to £5 million.

It is anticipating between 15 – 20 design projects each year, not just within the main terminal buildings but also within the wider airport environment including satellite buildings, support facilities and utilities. The framework also includes the provision of airfield engineering design services.

James Chorley, Framework Manager at Morgan Sindall Professional Services, says that the team at Stansted was impressed with the company’s track record, and proven ability to deliver a multidisciplinary service: “Morgan Sindall Professional Services is well known in the aviation sector for its work at Heathrow and Gatwick as part of their respective framework agreements,” he says.

“But to win this new contract, and as a sole consultant, confirms our position as the genuine industry leader in delivering safe and sustainable design solutions to the aviation industry.”

Morgan Sindall Professional Services has won a number of awards for its work in airport environments; the Gatwick South Terminal Central Search project for which it was responsible recently scooped both the Low Carbon Project of the Year and the Public Building Project of the Year in the Lighting Design Awards 2013.

It is this knowledge and insight that George McBride, Sector Director (Aviation) at Morgan Sindall Professional Services believes led Stansted to single source: “We have more than 20-years of learning and experience in the aviation industry,” he says, “and we can use this experience to actively and proactively advise and deliver the very best new projects for the Stansted team.”

Matt Allen, Head of Development and Construction at London Stansted, says that the airport is beginning a new era as part of Manchester Airports Group (M.A.G): “There are ambitious plans to develop and improve London Stansted, which includes a project to transform the departure lounge inside the award winning terminal,” he says. “We’re delighted to have Morgan Sindall on board with us; they have vast experience within the aviation industry and we look forward to working together to make Stansted even better in the months and years ahead.”
