Although renowned within the sport and leisure world, JAMM is also increasingly sought after in other sectors, including healthcare. The practice was, for instance, appointed by Spire Healthcare to create an exceptional oncology suite within its existing Southampton Hospital. Spire is committed to delivering a high level of care to its patients and JAMM’s brief was to offer a cancer care facility where Spire could offer the best from the latest technologies and dedicated specialist teams in a caring and comfortable environment. The goal was to produce a less clinical approach to the provision of oncology.
The concept created by JAMM provided Spire with an oncology suite to complement the state of the art services supplied by the hospital. Spatially, the layout was designed around a curved central nurses’ station, thus creating a softened appearance flowing through the circulation and treatment areas.
The entrance area and reception was designed to offer a comforting, relaxing atmosphere with a contemporary feel. Rich, warm timbers were incorporated into the scheme along with ambient lighting. Every effort was made to achieve the best possible environment for the patient to make their visit as calming as possible.
