STAKEHOLDERS WORK TOGETHER TO PUBLICISE THE BENEFITS OF NEW TIMBER FASTENER STANDARDS

From the 1 July 2013, when the Construction Products Regulation comes into force, it will become mandatory to use CE-marked fasteners for making structural connections in timber construction. The members of the PFA (Power Fastenings Association) are committed to ensuring that the UK market will be supplied with properly marked fasteners in advance of the deadline.  The fasteners must meet the requirements of EN1995, Eurocode 5: Design of Timber Structures as evidenced by CE marking in accordance with EN14592: Dowel Type Fasteners for Timber Structures.  This new approach moves from treating fasteners as generic and non-critical, to requiring that key performance criteria are determined by independent testing and that defined data is provided to design engineers.

LINDE STRENGTHENS UK SHORT TERM HIRE OFFERING

Linde Material Handling (UK) has invested £2.9m into strengthening its Forklift Truck hire offering throughout the UK, including its heavy trucks fleet.

Ibstock Group has further enhanced its commitment to safety across its UK manufacturing sites with an investment in its fleet of fork lift vehicles supplied by Linde Material Handling.

With site safety under constant and continuous review, the company has now added a revolutionary safety device – auto-reverse speed reduction – to all its on-site trucks. The system produces audible and visual warnings for fork lift drivers and pedestrians when a person or object is detected by the reverse sensors. At an agreed point, the transmission braking is activated which then slows the truck down from 5kph to just 1kph. This reduction has been proven to drastically lower the risk of collisions and serious injury to pedestrians.

The Dutch inverter manufacturer Mastervolt continues on its quest for quality excellence. The company’s process management system was recently certified according to ISO 9001. Mastervolt also invested into a sophisticated new test laboratory suitable for photovoltaic inverters of up to 50kW. The new lab also contains facilities to test off-grid power supply systems and diesel gensets for yachts from Mastervolt’s Marine product range.
