Ambitious expansion raises the roof at Scotts

Scotts of Thrapston Ltd has announced the exciting launch of a new manufacturing company in the West Midlands, producing trussed rafters and engineered floor joists.

The new company – Scotts Timber Engineering Ltd – has set up design and management offices in Shirley, whilst its new manufacturing facility is being established. Once commissioned, the new factory will enjoy the benefits of the latest thinking in machinery and production planning, leading to the creation of around 20 jobs in the early phases. The company specialises in timber engineering, taking the benefits of environmentally friendly timber as a construction material and exploiting its strengths to achieve 21st century design solutions. The new company is being headed up by Richard Evans, a widely-respected individual with over 25 years industry experience, who has pulled together a very customer-focused and experienced design team.

SOUND SCHOOL DESIGN

The Four Dwellings Primary School in Birmingham, built as part of the government’s Building Schools for the Future programme, was designed by architects dRMM. It is constructed with a range of materials that not only express its prefabricated engineered timber construction but complement aesthetically and contribute to student comfort and superior teaching performance. For example, extensive use has been made of Troldtekt ceiling tiles in the study areas and library which need to be quiet, calm and healthy as well as all the classrooms, in the play areas and sports hall which is traditionally very noisy. The panels were chosen as they offer several benefits including high sound absorption, high durability, natural breathability, low cost life cycle performance and sustainability.

Southampton Eastern Docks Car Storage Platform

Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were appointed by Morgan Sindall to grout in excess of 30,000 linear meters of concrete plank joints to a newly built car storage facility which was constructed using pre-cast concrete planks. In addition to grouting all plank joints, Cemplas were tasked with preparing the top deck by shot blasting and applying a Tremco Polyurethane waterproof coating system. Once the Tremco system was applied operatives completed the work by applying the demarcation car park line marking in accordance with the colours and layout to the drawings provided.
