Saudi Energy 2014 to showcase latest products & services in power sector

Recent industry reports have revealed that power consumption in Saudi Arabia continues to grow at a steady rate. Over the last decade, the Kingdom witnessed an average annual increase of 8% in electricity demand, with the number of subscribers significantly rising by an average of 5.2%. The demand in the housing sector particularly remains strong, with the sector consuming 50% of the Kingdom’s total electricity production. Industrial electricity consumption, meantime, grew by an average of 6.9%.

Pre-construction Under Way for Louisiana International Gulf Transfer Terminal

Bechtel, a global leader in planning, designing, and building port and marine projects, has been selected by LIGTT Project Company LLC to provide management services for the pre-construction of the Louisiana International Gulf Transfer Terminal. The innovative new cargo transfer terminal off Louisiana’s Gulf Coast will be the largest deep-water port in the United States and will cater to the new classes of larger, more economical ships. The port will enhance America’s international trade capabilities. LIGTT Project Company expects the new port to generate more than 33,000 jobs in Louisiana and Mississippi.

US hardwood lumber and veneer exports to the MENA region top USD 45.05 million in the first half of 2013

USD 45.05M of American hardwood lumber and veneer were exported to the MENA region including Pakistan during the first six months of this year, according to the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), the leading international trade association for the American hardwood industry. This marks a 4% increase over the same period in 2012. Of this total, exports of American hardwood lumber reached a value of USD 31.29M and a volume of 45,676 cubic meters, marking an increase of 0.5% and 3% respectively over the January to June period of 2012. Direct shipments of US hardwood veneers to the MENA region during the period reached a total value of USD 13.76m, rising by 14% from the same period last year. In addition, US hardwood log exports to the MENA region reached a value of USD 14m and a volume of 26,653 cubic meters during the same time period.

Frankfurt Airport Opens Pier A-Plus as Scheduled

Frankfurt Airport’s (FRA) new Pier A-Plus, the 800 meter-long westward expansion of Terminal 1, has opened on schedule after about four years of construction. Flight operations began on 10 October at the new pier, allowing Germany’s biggest hub to serve up to six million additional passengers per year, thus a total of approximately 65 million passengers per year. This €700m terminal complex will be exclusively used by Deutsche Lufthansa AG and its Star Alliance partners, including flights coming from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In particular, Pier A-Plus provides more docking positions for serving wide body aircraft like the Airbus A380 superjumbo and the Boeing B747 family.
