Sharvatt Woolwich Limited was formed in November 2005 by the merger of two successful privately owned timber merchants – William Sharvatt and Woolwich Timber.

Part of the Lawson Timber, Fencing and Builders Merchants group, Sharvatt Woolwich has remained a traditional timber merchant and is now based on a three-acre site in Belvedere in Kent. The merger gave Lawsons a strong foothold in a new market.

NMBS Launch ‘I Love Independents’ campaign

The National Merchant Buying Society (NMBS) is a centralised buying society for independent builders, timber and hardware, plumbing and heating merchants.

Since 1963, the NMBS has been dedicated to strengthening the position of the independent merchant by bringing them together to gain negotiating and purchasing power by continuously negotiating terms, rebates and special offers on their behalf. In 2011, it has over 670 members with over 2,000 branches and approximately £500 million buying power.

Doug started the Company in 1969, moving to its first factory in 1976. In 1991, Doug moved the whole operation to its present site in Ossett. Today, the Company occupies a 30,000 square foot site and not only offers a full range of new machines but also holds the UK’s largest stocks of factory rebuilt and second-hand machines.

A New Window on Education
