People skills

Over 900 construction industry leaders recently came together to spearhead a new campaign – Construction4Growth – aimed at kick-starting the industry.

The campaign, which has been welcomed by the Prime Minister, calls for measures to address concerning industry statistics. According to figures released by CITB-Constructionskills last month, 160,000 construction workers are currently claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance with 45,000 jobs lost across industry so far this year. Worryingly there is a potential further loss of 82,000 construction roles in the next five years.

FMP delivers £70m schools‚ project

Three major construction firms from Northern Ireland have collaborated to deliver a series of schools in a contract worth £70m in the Scottish Western Isles.

Farrans, H&J Martin and Patton, working under the joint-venture name of FMP, beat off stiff competition to win the construction contract for six schools as part of the Western Isles Schools Project (WISP) funded by the Scottish Government.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) may be 98% air but the latest website for the popular polymer is heavy on facts and figures which emphasises its heavyweight advantages across applications ranging from building insulation to bike helmets. FIRST NUCLEAR ANALYSIS LABORATORY TO BE BUILT USING MODULAR CONSTRUCTION ARRIVES ON SITE AT DOUNREAY

Britain’s newest laboratory for the analysis of radioactive materials has just arrived on site at Dounreay in Scotland.
